Learn about the Bible with this interactive bookshelf puzzle!
Let's be honest, it can be confusing and hard to get to know your way around the Bible! For starters, it's a big book made up of 66 smaller books - its own little library - and that's a lot to keep track of. Use this puzzle to aid in biblical literacy by getting familiar with the sequencing and genre groupings of the Bible. Designed to look like a bookshelf, this self-correcting puzzle is made of 10 chunky blocks that are grouped by literature genres.
Here are 6 ways it can be used:
- Self-correcting puzzle. Remove all puzzle pieces and allow your child to discover which pieces fit where. After completing the puzzle, hold each puzzle piece one at a time and ask your child to help you count how many books are on each one. Which group (genre) has the most books? Which has the least?
- Memory work / sequencing. Flip the puzzle board over and see if you can place the pieces in order without looking at the front side. Which ones are the hardest to remember?
- Memory work / book titles. Remove the puzzle pieces and slowly work on memorizing the order of books listed in each one. (tip: search for Books of the Bible songs on YouTube if you want to learn through song)
- Categorizing. On a sheet of paper, make 2 columns and write OLD TESTAMENT and NEW TESTAMENT at the top. Work on sorting the blocks where they belong.
- Sequencing and understanding genres. Remove all the pieces. Slowly review each genre category and work towards memorizing all the books that belong to it, asking review questions like which books make up the Law in the Old Testament? Which books are considered Minor Prophets?
- Crayon rubbings. Place a piece of paper over the blocks and rub with crayon to reveal the names.
This puzzle is a generous size with 10 chunky puzzle pieces, designed for small hands. The overall puzzle size is 10 3/4" x 17 3/4" and is made from linden wood. Please note: there are a few small pieces that can present choking hazards for kids under age 3.
