DIY Lent picture calendar

DIY Lent picture calendar

If you've been following me over on IG for awhile, you've heard me talk about the book Who is Jesus? by Kate and Joe Hox.  It's a beautiful, engaging resource that our family has loved using during the season of Lent over the last few years.  Each devotion helps shine a light on the attributes and nature of Jesus as revealed through the Scriptures.  We've really enjoyed going through each day's devotion and the guiding questions have helped spark meaningful gospel conversations around the dinner table.

But one of the things we love most about this resource are the illustrations!  Joe has created a series of prints in the style of stylized woodcuts that accompany each day's reading.  We are a family of artists and we put a high value on the trifecta of truth, beauty and goodness - so finding a resource like this that has theologically rich content paired with stunning visuals is a real gem.

I recently found out that Kate and Joe generously share these visuals for FREE on their website for families / churches / homeschools.  How generous!!

When I saw them, I knew immediately I wanted to use them in our Lent wall calendar.  So I downloaded a set of cards, sized them to 70% so they'd fit into the pockets, printed and laminated them, then tucked them into our 40-pocket jewelry organizer.  I added number stickers to keep things organized.

Lastly, I added some flower and greenery stems into each pocket so we can create a mini table garden that builds through the season.  See DIY Lent garden here

Materials

Steps

  1. Add your stickers to the pocket organizer
  2. Print a set of cards.  I suggest adjusting the sizing before printing in order to fit the pockets.  (I sized mine to 70%)  These will also last longer if laminated!
  3. Place in corresponding pockets.
  4. Add faux greenery and flowers if desired
