My husband grew up in the the Black Forest of Germany, where they have the most festive holiday decorations, warm white twinkly lights everywhere and cheery Christmas markets with spiced cider, fresh candied pecans and vendors selling all kinds of handmade delights. It’s pure magic.
We’re looking forward to taking our kids there someday so they can experience it firsthand. In the meantime, we have fun bringing some German-inspired traditions into our home.
We made this Advent wreath out of wooden train tracks, but this could be adapted to whatever materials you may have on hand.
Steps:

Gather your materials. We used 8 train tracks for the base, white felt and cotton balls for snow, patterned paper and an assortment of small animals and trees. You’ll also need scissors, a pencil and some tape.

Sketch out your paper scene and cut it out. We were going for a German village-look, but this could also look great as tree silhouettes or city buildings! Place where desired and tape (or glue) to secure in place.

Add other elements to complete your scene. We left this out all season so our girls could play with it and rearrange it as they liked. We placed four small battery-operated candles on it too to complete the wreath.
